The Gandhara Hindko Academy in Peshawar shines with literary accolades, winning awards for Hindko language publications and promoting linguistic diversity in Pakistan.
The Gandhara Hindko Academy in Peshawar has recently made headlines by receiving the prestigious Pakistan Writers Guild Khyber Pakhtunkhwa award for four books published in the Hindko language. The award-winning publications include a book of poetry titled 'Ghazlaan Nazmaan Terey Naam' by Ahmad Nadeem Awan, a poetic collection named 'Dukh Chhupawaan Kisraan' by Muhammad Nawaz Sabir, a collection of short stories titled 'Chunni Naal Bandhi Kahaniyaan' by Gul Arbab, and a novel called 'Matti Naal Matti' by Nazeer Bhatti.
Notably, the Abaseen Arts Council also recognized four Hindko language books published by the Hindko Academy in 2022, authored by Faheem Siddiqui, Ahmad Nadeem Awan, Ali Awais Khayal, and Waheeda Malik. Furthermore, a total of 12 publications from the Hindko Academy have been honored with the Bhil International Literary Awards this year, showcasing the rich literary talent within the academy.
Established in 2015 through a public-private partnership, the Gandhara Hindko Academy aims to promote the Hindko language and culture. Over the years, the academy has expanded its efforts to include other Pakistani languages and their associated cultures. Funded by the KP government and managed by the Gandhara Hindko board, a literary and cultural organization with a history dating back to 1993, the academy continues to play a vital role in preserving and celebrating linguistic diversity in Pakistan.
