In recent years, the issue of illegal weapons smuggling has become a pressing concern in various regions of India, particularly in Punjab. The state has been grappling with the challenges posed by organized crime and the proliferation of firearms, which often find their way into the hands of criminal gangs. This situation has prompted law enforcement agencies to intensify their efforts to combat such illegal activities and ensure the safety and security of the public.

In a significant development, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has successfully dismantled an inter-state illegal weapons smuggling module. This operation, which took place in Punjab, led to the arrest of seven individuals linked to the smuggling network. The police recovered a total of 12 pistols, along with 16 magazines and 23 cartridges, highlighting the serious nature of this operation.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Karanjeet Singh, also known as Dhanni, Jashandeep Singh, referred to as Maya, Ishmeet Singh, known as Rishu, Amritpal Singh, called Spura, and Dilpreet Singh, who is also known as Dil. All of these individuals are residents of Chheharta in Amritsar. Additionally, Varinder Singh, alias Ravi, and Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi, hailing from Baba Bakala Sahib in Amritsar, were also apprehended.

According to the Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, preliminary investigations have revealed that this smuggling module was providing logistical support to various gangs by procuring weapons from Madhya Pradesh. The investigation further indicated that Karanjeet Singh, along with his brother Jashandeep Singh and Ishmeet Singh, was responsible for transporting weapon consignments from Madhya Pradesh to deliver them to different individuals under the instructions of the US-based Dilpreet Singh.

In response to this alarming situation, the police acted swiftly upon receiving secret information regarding the illegal weapons being smuggled into the state. Teams from the Islamabad Police Station and CIA Staff-II, under the supervision of DCP Investigation Harpreet Singh Mander, launched a special operation that culminated in the apprehension of the accused in the Chheharta and Baba Bakala areas.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act at the Islamabad Police Station in Amritsar, marking a crucial step in the legal proceedings against the accused. The DGP has indicated that further investigations are ongoing, with the possibility of more arrests in the near future.

This operation underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to tackle the menace of illegal arms trafficking and ensure the safety of citizens. As the investigation unfolds, it is imperative for the community to remain vigilant and support the authorities in their efforts to combat crime. The successful dismantling of this smuggling module serves as a reminder that collective action and cooperation are essential in the fight against organized crime and the protection of public safety.
