Dengue Test Fee Set at Rs. 90 in Punjab to Prevent Overcharging

The rising cases of dengue fever in Pakistan have raised significant concerns among health officials and the general public alike. Dengue, a mosquito-borne viral infection, can lead to severe health complications if not treated promptly. In response to this pressing health issue, the Punjab government has taken a decisive step by setting a fixed fee of Rs. 90 for dengue tests. During a recent visit to the dengue wards at Holy Family Hospital (HFH), Tahira Aurangzeb, the focal person on dengue, emphasized the importance of this measure. She stated, "Strict action will be taken against the laboratories involved in overcharging." This statement underscores the government's commitment to protecting citizens from unfair practices, especially during a health crisis. Accompanied by other parliamentarians, including Malik Abrar and Shazia Rizwan, Aurangzeb called for collective efforts to combat the dengue outbreak effectively.

To further ensure transparency, Aurangzeb directed relevant departments to display clear information regarding the dengue test charges outside laboratories. This move is intended to inform the public and prevent any potential exploitation by private labs. During her visit, she also interacted with dengue patients, inquiring about their treatment experiences. The patients expressed their satisfaction with the services provided, highlighting the hospital's efforts in managing the situation. Many patients took the opportunity to thank Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for the support and facilities being offered.

According to the Medical Superintendent of Holy Family Hospital, approximately 70 percent of the patients receiving treatment are from Rawalpindi district, while the remaining 30 percent come from surrounding areas. This statistic reflects the hospital's critical role in addressing the health needs of the community during this challenging time.

As the government continues to implement measures to control the dengue outbreak, it is essential for the public to remain vigilant. Awareness about preventive measures, such as eliminating mosquito breeding sites and using protective clothing, can significantly reduce the risk of infection.
