A police sub-inspector in Islamabad has been remanded in custody for serious child assault allegations, raising concerns over police accountability.

In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the community, a sub-inspector of the police has been remanded in custody following serious allegations of child assault. This case has not only raised questions about the safety of children but also about the accountability of law enforcement officials in Pakistan.

On September 15, a father reported his two children missing after they left to buy juice from a nearby canteen while he was at a hospital with their younger sibling. After a frantic search, he discovered his children at an Edhi Home on September 18, where they revealed that a police officer had kidnapped them. The children reported that they were taken to the Shams Colony police station, where they were detained and sexually assaulted by the sub-inspector.

The gravity of the situation escalated when it was revealed that the station house officer (SHO) of the Karachi Company police station had failed to act on the father’s complaint. Consequently, the SHO was suspended, and the station clerk was dismissed for neglecting their duties. Meanwhile, the SHO of Shams Colony was also suspended but reinstated shortly after, raising further concerns about the internal processes within the police force.

Officials have expressed their dismay over the lack of oversight from higher authorities, including the Sub-Divisional Police Officer and the Superintendents of Police, who are responsible for ensuring that complaints are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly. The father’s desperate attempts to seek justice included posting a video on social media, which ultimately caught the attention of senior police officials.

Following an inquiry led by DIG Syed Ali Raza, the sub-inspector was found guilty, and a case was registered against him. The judicial magistrate has granted police custody of the accused for four days to facilitate further investigation and evidence collection.

This incident highlights a critical issue within the police system in Pakistan, where the very individuals sworn to protect citizens are implicated in heinous crimes. It raises important questions about the mechanisms in place to ensure accountability and the protection of vulnerable populations, particularly children.

As the investigation unfolds, it is imperative for the authorities to not only seek justice for the victims but also to implement reforms that will prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. The community must remain vigilant and advocate for a system that prioritizes the safety and well-being of its children, ensuring that those who abuse their power are held accountable.
