Mayor Karachi Orders Immediate Start on Rain-Damaged Road Repairs

KARACHI - The city of Karachi has faced significant challenges due to heavy rains, which have severely damaged many roads. In response to this pressing issue, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced that companies awarded contracts for the reconstruction of these rain-affected roads are now required to begin their work. This initiative comes after a thorough tendering and scrutiny process aimed at ensuring that the reconstruction efforts are both efficient and effective.

In his statement, Mayor Wahab highlighted that the first phase of this reconstruction project will focus on 33 roads across the city. Not only will these roads be reconstructed, but the street lighting systems on various routes will also be modernized. The Mayor has made it clear that all companies involved must adhere to high standards, emphasizing that any negligence or use of substandard materials will result in immediate blacklisting of the responsible company.

The list of roads undergoing construction includes well-known routes such as Habib River Road, Shahrah-e-Orangi, and Kashmir Road, among others. Additionally, repairs are being conducted in several key areas, including Chandni Chowk, Nazimabad, and Tariq Road. The Mayor also pointed out that improvements on Habib River Road and Bab-e-Khyber Road will enhance the sewage system, addressing another critical issue faced by residents.

Moreover, the restoration and repair of streetlights are being carried out on numerous roads, including Shah Waliullah Road and Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 13-D Road. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to improve the overall infrastructure of Karachi, which has been a priority for the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).

Mayor Wahab stressed the importance of enhancing the city’s infrastructure, stating that it would significantly reduce traffic congestion and travel time for citizens.
