Militant Attacks Escalate in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

An explosion near a police van in Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), has tragically resulted in three fatalities and seven injuries. The incident occurred when an explosive device planted by the road detonated as the police van passed by, also affecting a nearby rickshaw and claiming the life of one of its passengers. Among the injured were two police officers who were in the van at the time of the explosion.

This unfortunate event comes in the wake of escalating militant activities in KP, particularly following the termination of the truce between the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Islamabad. The region has witnessed a surge in violence, with recent incidents including a separate bombing in KP's Bajur district that resulted in the deaths of five individuals, including former senator Hidayat Ullah.

The attack on Hidayat Ullah, carried out using a remote-controlled device targeting his vehicle in Damadola village, underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by the region. Despite the recent attacks, no group has claimed responsibility for the violence, adding to the uncertainty and fear among the local population.

In response to the escalating militant threats, the federal government has approved a counter-terrorism operation based on recommendations from the National Action Plan's Central Apex Committee. KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has condemned the explosion in Mardan, extending condolences to the families of the deceased and wishing a swift recovery to the injured individuals.
