In a significant development aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, Pakistan and Mongolia have agreed to form a Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) and an inter-parliamentary union. This agreement was reached during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Mongolian Prime Minister Luvsannamsrain Oyun-Erdene, which took place on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of Government Meeting.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz proposed several initiatives to enhance cooperation between the two nations. He suggested sending civil servants from Mongolia to training institutions in Pakistan, which would foster professional development and knowledge exchange. Additionally, he proposed declaring 2025 as the “Year of Pakistan-Mongolia Friendship,” a symbolic gesture aimed at deepening the bonds of friendship and cooperation.

Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized the importance of exploring new avenues for mutually beneficial cooperation, particularly in trade, investment, tourism, agriculture, and mining. He expressed optimism that these initiatives would pave the way for stronger ties and greater collaboration between the two countries.

Welcoming Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene, Shehbaz noted that this visit marks a new chapter in the history of Pakistan-Mongolia relations, characterized by mutual respect and goodwill. He congratulated Oyun-Erdene on his re-election and expressed eagerness to work closely with him to further enhance cooperation.

In response, Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene congratulated Shehbaz on the successful organization of the SCO CHG Meeting and acknowledged Pakistan’s leadership role within the organization. He expressed Mongolia’s commitment to building stronger bilateral relations through joint efforts.

In a related meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz also met with SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming, reaffirming Pakistan’s dedication to promoting the organization’s development priorities. He highlighted Pakistan’s readiness to collaborate with other member states to enhance the effectiveness of the SCO.

As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, the strengthening of ties between Pakistan and Mongolia is a positive step towards fostering international cooperation. The initiatives discussed during these meetings not only aim to enhance bilateral relations but also contribute to regional stability and development. By focusing on shared goals and mutual benefits, both countries are poised to embark on a journey of collaboration that could yield significant advantages for their citizens.
