PM Shehbaz Sharif Urges Collective Action Against Terrorism

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently chaired a crucial meeting of the National Action Plan (NAP) Apex Committee, where he underscored the urgent need for united efforts in the fight against terrorism. The Prime Minister highlighted the severe impact of terrorism on Pakistan's economy and emphasized the essential role of stability and the rule of law in achieving sustainable development.

During the meeting, PM Shehbaz stressed the importance of a coordinated approach involving all state institutions, ministries, provincial governments, and agencies to effectively address the complex challenge of terrorism. He emphasized that the responsibility of combating terrorism rests on every state institution and called for the full implementation of governance at all levels.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister urged for strong leadership from political and religious figures in the battle against terrorism, emphasizing that it is a national duty. He rejected the idea of burdening the armed forces alone and highlighted the crucial role of provincial governments in the fight against terrorism.

PM Shehbaz also emphasized the significance of maintaining robust diplomatic relations with regional countries to combat terrorist elements efficiently. He called for legislative actions to empower law enforcement agencies and stressed the necessity of coordination among all sectors of power.

In a show of support, the Prime Minister pledged full assistance and resources to the armed forces in their anti-terrorism efforts, ensuring comprehensive aid. He also addressed the issue of misinformation on social media, affirming the government's commitment to enacting laws to counter false narratives and promote unity.

Moreover, the government assured Beijing of providing enhanced security to Chinese nationals working on projects in Pakistan, highlighting the unwavering dedication to safeguarding their well-being. The Interior Minister detailed the security measures in place and the establishment of a specialized force for foreign nationals in Islamabad.

The meeting between Pakistani and Chinese officials reiterated their joint resolve to combat terrorism with a zero-tolerance approach and strengthen cooperation in counter-terrorism endeavors.

The NAP Apex Committee gathering coincided with a surge in extremism, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces, as indicated in a recent security report. The report documented a notable number of casualties and injuries resulting from terrorist attacks and security operations in the first quarter of 2024.
