In a significant move to ensure food safety and hygiene, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has taken strict action against food outlets in Lodhran. Over the past ten months, a total of 1,233 food establishments have been penalized, resulting in fines amounting to Rs 8.6 million. This initiative reflects the PFA's commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety across the district.

According to reports, the PFA Lodhran Deputy Director, Mubashir Abbas, stated that the department conducted an impressive 12,792 inspections from January to October 2024. To effectively monitor food safety, three dedicated teams were deployed to inspect various food outlets, while an additional team focused specifically on milk quality. During this period, a staggering 188,065 liters of milk were tested, leading to the disposal of 785 liters of substandard milk.

In addition to the inspections, the PFA issued 4,345 notices to food vendors, urging them to improve their hygiene practices. Furthermore, 12 food units were temporarily closed, with warnings issued to ensure compliance with health regulations. The PFA also took legal action by registering three FIRs and arresting three individuals for serious violations.

The PFA has been proactive in addressing public concerns, receiving 394 complaints through their helpline number 1223 and online application. These complaints were resolved promptly, showcasing the department's dedication to ensuring that citizens have access to safe and hygienic food.

In a related initiative, the PFA has also begun the verification process for 110 applications under the Punjab government’s ‘Dhee Rani’ program, aimed at assisting underprivileged couples with their wedding ceremonies. This program, launched by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, seeks to alleviate the financial burden on parents by providing financial support of Rs 100,000, along with essential items such as furniture, crockery, and clothing for the newlyweds.

The government is also committed to organizing meals for the wedding ceremonies, ensuring that these special occasions are memorable for the couples involved. The last date for submitting online applications for the ‘Dhee Rani’ program is November 15, and the process is designed to be transparent, with teams visiting homes to verify eligibility.

The actions taken by the Punjab Food Authority in Lodhran highlight the importance of food safety and hygiene in our daily lives.
