Internal discord within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) intensifies as lawmakers align with Sunni Ittehad Council due to dissatisfaction with leadership handling of Imran Khan's detention. Calls for prioritizing Khan's release, potential resignations, and formation of a forward bloc within PTI highlight challenges faced by the party.

Cracks have emerged within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, with 21 lawmakers aligning themselves with the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) due to dissatisfaction with the leadership's handling of the situation surrounding the detention of party founder Imran Khan. The lawmakers are urging the party leadership to escalate efforts to secure Khan's release from jail.

The internal discord within PTI intensified following a statement by Shehryar Afridi hinting at resignation, prompting discussions among more than 27 PTI legislators. Members like Shandana Gulzar Khan and Sher Afzal Marwat voiced their discontent with the leadership's performance, alleging a focus on personal ambitions over the release of incarcerated party members.

Reports indicate that some PTI lawmakers are contemplating resigning from the assembly, while others are considering forming a forward bloc within the party. The dissatisfaction among PTI legislators was underscored by MNA Shandana's call for resignations if Khan's release is not prioritized.

Concerns have been raised regarding the conduct of top leaders in PTI, with accusations of compromised individuals in key committees. The dissatisfied lawmakers stress the importance of a more concerted effort to secure the release of imprisoned party members.

In response to an offer for talks from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, PTI's Secretary General and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub Khan, conditionally agreed to negotiations with the government once Khan and other incarcerated party members are freed.

Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, has been entangled in legal issues since his ousting in April 2022. Despite acquittals in some cases, Khan remains in detention due to convictions in other legal matters.

The internal rift within PTI underscores the challenges faced by the party in navigating the legal and political landscape surrounding Imran Khan's detention. As the situation unfolds, the party leadership must address the concerns of dissatisfied lawmakers and prioritize efforts to secure the release of imprisoned members to maintain unity and focus on their political objectives.
