The Islamabad High Court dismisses IB's petition in the Audio Leaks case, emphasizing judicial integrity and accountability by refusing to withdraw objections against Justice Babar Sattar.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has dismissed the miscellaneous petition of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) in the Audio Leaks case, refusing to withdraw objections against Justice Babar Sattar. During a hearing, the IB expressed its desire to retract the objection, which was promptly denied by Justice Babar Sattar. The court has issued an order notifying the Director General (DG) IB to explain why contempt of court action should not be taken against them and questioning the authority behind filing the petition.
Previously, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had also objected to Justice Babar in the same case. While PEMRA, PTA, and FIA had their petitions dismissed with a penalty of Rs500 thousand each, IB sought to withdraw objections after being fined Rs1.5 million collectively.
These developments highlight the legal complexities surrounding the Audio Leaks case, where multiple institutions have faced scrutiny for their objections. The court's firm stance on maintaining judicial integrity and accountability is evident through its decisions, emphasizing the importance of upholding the rule of law.
