Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab recently convened a crucial meeting with opposition leader Syed Saifuddin Advocate at the City Council to deliberate on the forthcoming fiscal budget and address pressing municipal concerns in Karachi. The meeting, which saw the participation of Municipal Commissioner Afzal Zaidi and Finance Advisor Nayab Saeed, took place at the City Council.

Mayor Wahab announced that the budget for the upcoming fiscal year is scheduled for presentation to the council on June 24. He underscored the significance of a collaborative approach in resolving municipal challenges and advancing the city's progress. Additionally, he revealed that 210 ongoing development projects are slated for completion within the current year.

During the meeting, Mayor Wahab raised specific issues, including the renewal of leases for buildings in the Old City area, for which renewal advertisements have already been published in newspapers. He also brought attention to the legal dispute in the Supreme Court concerning outstanding payments between KMC and Karachi Electric. The mayor disclosed that KMC owes Rs. 10.5 billion to retired officers and employees, with the Sindh government expected to announce a Rs. 1.5 billion package for these payments soon. He assured that next year's development endeavors would be a collaborative effort with all political parties in the City Council, with Rs. 2.5 billion earmarked for development projects.

Mayor Wahab also tackled the challenges posed by high-rise buildings and unauthorized constructions in Karachi, urging City Council members to aid in regulating these issues within the existing legal framework. Opposition leader Syed Saifuddin Advocate reiterated his commitment to supporting Karachi's development initiatives and shed light on the difficulties faced by officers and employees due to pending dues. He stressed the importance of uniform development across all towns and UCs in Karachi.
