PM Shehbaz Sharif defends Pak-Saudi ties, condemning allegations from Bushra Bibi amid rising political tensions.

In a recent statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken a firm stance against any attempts to undermine the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. This declaration comes in response to remarks made by Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, who accused Saudi Arabia of playing a role in the ousting of her husband’s government. The Prime Minister's comments were made during the inauguration of the Kachhi Canal restoration project in Kot Addu, where he emphasized the importance of maintaining strong ties with the Kingdom.

During his address, PM Shehbaz stated, "No one could even think about levelling such allegations," highlighting the sensitivity surrounding the relationship with Saudi Arabia. He expressed concern over the potential damage such statements could inflict on Pakistan's reputation and its diplomatic relations. The Prime Minister further criticized the motivations behind these allegations, suggesting they stem from personal and political agendas rather than genuine concern for the nation.

Bushra Bibi's video message, which preceded the PTI's planned protests, has sparked significant backlash. PM Shehbaz condemned her remarks, stating, "People of such nature fail to realise how much damage their statements can cause to Pakistan." He questioned the political interests that would justify sacrificing national interests, reinforcing the idea that the friendship with Saudi Arabia is crucial for Pakistan's stability and growth.

In his remarks, the Prime Minister praised Saudi Arabia for its unwavering support to Pakistan, stating that the Kingdom has always stood by Islamabad during challenging times without expecting anything in return. He characterized the allegations against Saudi Arabia as an act of aggression against a friendly nation, asserting, "We will not allow anyone to play with our national interests." This strong rhetoric underscores the significance of Saudi Arabia as a key ally for Pakistan.

Furthermore, PM Shehbaz acknowledged the efforts of Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti in launching the restoration of the Kachhi Canal project, which he believes will bring prosperity to the region. He criticized former military ruler Pervez Musharraf for the project's previous mismanagement, emphasizing the need for resources to complete the initiative successfully.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also weighed in on the controversy, condemning Bushra Bibi's statements and reiterating the importance of Saudi Arabia as a supportive ally. She remarked, "A woman with no political background has attacked an ally country of Pakistan," further emphasizing the need for unity in the face of external challenges.

As the political landscape in Pakistan continues to evolve, the relationship with Saudi Arabia remains a pivotal aspect of the country's foreign policy. The recent statements from both PM Shehbaz and CM Maryam reflect a broader commitment to safeguarding national interests and fostering diplomatic ties. In a time when political tensions are high, it is essential for leaders to prioritize unity and collaboration over divisive rhetoric. The future of Pakistan's international relations may very well depend on how effectively its leaders can navigate these challenges while maintaining strong alliances.
