PPP's Syed Hasan Murtaza states party's opposition to banning PTI, emphasizing dialogue and growth under Bilawal Bhutto's leadership.

In recent political developments in Pakistan, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has made its stance clear regarding the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). During a press conference held in Lahore, Syed Hasan Murtaza, the Central Punjab General Secretary of PPP, emphasized that the party is not in favor of imposing a ban on PTI. This statement comes at a time when political tensions are high, and discussions about the future of various political parties are ongoing.

Murtaza stated, “We are not in favor of banning PTI or sidelining it. There has been no discussion with us regarding banning PTI. When they contact us, we will decide considering the entire context.” This indicates a willingness to engage with PTI and suggests that the PPP is open to dialogue rather than confrontation. The press conference was attended by several prominent party members, including Faisal Mir and Haji Aziz-ur-Rehman Chan, highlighting the importance of this issue within the party.

During the event, Murtaza also reflected on the PPP's resilience over the past three decades, despite facing character assassination from various quarters. He noted that the party is now attracting members from other political factions, which he sees as a positive sign of growth and acceptance. A notable addition to the party is Amanullah Sandhu, the former President of the District Bar Hafizabad and District President of PTI Hafizabad, who was welcomed warmly by Murtaza. The presentation of a party muffler to Sandhu symbolized this new alliance.

Looking ahead, Murtaza expressed confidence in the leadership of Bilawal Bhutto, stating, “The future belongs solely to Bilawal Bhutto.” He believes that only the PPP can effectively navigate the country out of its current crises, citing Bilawal’s role in fostering consensus through the 26th Constitutional Amendment. The party is also planning a significant power show in Punjab in March 2025, which indicates their intent to strengthen their political presence in the region.

Furthermore, Murtaza made it clear that the PPP stands against military generals who undermine democracy. He stressed the importance of strengthening institutions rather than individuals, which is a crucial point in the context of Pakistan's political landscape. He criticized a major source of discord and instability, attributing its decline to anti-national policies. Murtaza also highlighted the historical improvements in the Pakistan Stock Exchange, showcasing the potential for economic growth despite past challenges.

The PPP's approach towards PTI reflects a broader strategy of inclusivity and dialogue in Pakistan's political arena. By advocating for engagement rather than exclusion, the PPP is positioning itself as a party that values democratic principles and seeks to unify rather than divide. As the political landscape continues to evolve, the actions and decisions of parties like the PPP will play a significant role in shaping the future of governance in Pakistan. The emphasis on collaboration and consensus-building could pave the way for a more stable and prosperous political environment, benefiting all citizens.
