The ongoing Twenty 20 Men's Cricket World Cup has made headlines for its record-breaking prize money, totaling an impressive $11.25 million. This year's tournament features 20 teams battling it out across nine venues in the US and West Indies over a 28-day period. The winning team stands to claim a historic $2.45 million, the highest amount ever awarded in the tournament's history.

Geoff Allardice, the Chief Executive of the ICC, has highlighted the significance of this event, emphasizing how the prize money reflects the monumental nature of the tournament. With millions of cricket fans worldwide eagerly anticipating the matches, the ICC is committed to delivering an exceptional cricketing spectacle.

This edition of the T20 tournament marks the first time that 20 teams are participating, adding to the excitement and competitiveness of the event. The runners-up are set to receive a minimum of $1.28 million, while the losing semi-finalists will each take home $787,500. Teams eliminated in the second round will be awarded $382,500, with additional prizes for teams finishing between ninth and twelfth place and those ranking from 13th to 20th place.

In a unique twist, teams will earn an extra $31,154 for every match won, excluding the semi-finals and finals. The tournament structure includes 40 matches in the first round, leading to the Super 8s and culminating in the semi-finals in Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana. The grand finale is scheduled to take place at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, where the 2024 men's champions will be crowned.

The participating teams have been divided into two groups:

Group C: New Zealand, West Indies, Afghanistan, Uganda, Papua New Guinea

Group D: South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands, Nepal
