The Indian blind cricket team will participate in the T20 World Cup 2024 hosted in Pakistan, featuring matches in Lahore and Multan.
The excitement surrounding cricket in South Asia is palpable, especially with the upcoming Blind Cricket T20 World Cup 2024. This prestigious tournament is set to take place in Pakistan, marking a significant moment for blind cricket enthusiasts. Scheduled from November 23 to December 3, 2024, the event will feature teams from various countries, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the host nation, Pakistan.
The World Blind Cricket Council (WBCC) has officially announced the tournament's schedule, which will see matches held in two cities: Lahore and Multan. Lahore is set to host a total of 15 matches, including the opening game between Pakistan and South Africa. Meanwhile, Multan will be the venue for nine matches, which will include the semi-finals and the final. A highly anticipated clash between the arch-rivals, Pakistan and India, is scheduled for November 25.
India has a remarkable track record in this tournament, having won all previous editions held in 2012, 2017, and 2022. This year’s edition is particularly noteworthy as it is the first time the tournament is being hosted outside of India. Despite the ongoing uncertainties regarding the participation of the Indian men's cricket team in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan, the Indian blind cricket team has confirmed its participation in the World Cup.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been vocal about the need for government approval regarding international tours. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla recently stated, "No decision has been taken (yet). However, our policy is that for international tours, we always seek permission from the government." This statement underscores the complexities involved in international cricket, especially when it comes to matches between India and Pakistan.
As the tournament approaches, the anticipation among fans is growing. The Blind Cricket T20 World Cup not only showcases the talent of visually impaired cricketers but also promotes inclusivity and awareness about the sport. It serves as a reminder that cricket transcends boundaries and unites people, regardless of their circumstances. The upcoming matches promise to be thrilling, and fans are eager to witness the spirit of competition and camaraderie that defines this beautiful game.
