Kashmir's first international marathon attracted over 2,000 athletes, promoting the region as a safe tourist destination.

The picturesque region of Kashmir recently witnessed a remarkable event as it hosted its first international marathon, attracting over 2,000 athletes from various parts of the world. This significant occasion not only showcased the athletic prowess of the participants but also aimed to highlight the improving situation in the valley, which has long been a focal point of attention.

Among the notable figures present at the flagging ceremony was Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty, who lent his star power to the event. The marathon featured two main categories: a full marathon covering 42 kilometers and a half-marathon of 21 kilometers. Athletes from India, as well as top long-distance runners from Europe and Africa, participated, including Asian Gold medalists, making the competition fierce and exciting.

The event was organized by the Department of Tourism, which emphasized its goal of promoting Kashmir as a safe and welcoming destination for tourists. “Kashmir is open to all. We welcome tourists from different parts of the world. If someone is running 42 km, it itself makes a statement that Kashmir is now peaceful,” stated Tourism Director Raja Yaqoob. His words reflect a broader message that the region is ready to embrace visitors and showcase its rich culture and heritage.

In addition to promoting tourism, the marathon served as a platform to highlight Kashmir's unique products, handicrafts, and cuisine. The athletes, many of whom have substantial followings on social media, are expected to act as brand ambassadors for the region, sharing their experiences and encouraging others to explore the beauty of Kashmir.

As the marathon concluded, it became clear that this event was more than just a race; it was a celebration of resilience and hope for the future of Kashmir. The successful organization of the marathon signifies a step towards normalcy and a renewed spirit in the valley. It is a reminder that despite the challenges faced, the people of Kashmir are eager to share their home with the world, inviting everyone to witness the breathtaking landscapes and rich traditions that define this remarkable region.
