Premier League to Enhance VAR System for Upcoming Season

English Premier League clubs have decided to continue using the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system for the upcoming season. This decision was made at the league's annual general meeting, where 19 out of 20 clubs voted in favor of keeping the technology.

VAR was first introduced in the Premier League in 2019 to assist referees in avoiding clear and obvious errors during matches. While the system aims to enhance decision-making accuracy, it has faced criticism and controversies, drawing ire from both managers and fans.

Furthermore, the league aims to uphold a stringent threshold for VAR intervention and intends to offer big screen replays of VAR decisions at stadiums. Enhanced training programs for referees are also in the pipeline to enhance consistency, speed of decision-making, and overall accuracy.

The Premier League is committed to collaborating with the Professional Game Match Officials Limited to implement these changes effectively. Additionally, the league will advocate for live video and audio broadcasts during VAR reviews by lobbying the International Football Association board.
