The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority introduces 6GHz spectrum for Wi-Fi 6E, aiming to enhance internet access and drive digital innovation in line with the 'Digital Pakistan' vision.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has made a groundbreaking announcement by introducing the 6 Gigahertz (GHz) spectrum band for unlicensed operation for RLAN (Radio Local Area Networks), also known as Wi-Fi 6E. This move has positioned Pakistan as the 10th country in the Asia Pacific region to adopt the 6GHz spectrum for Wi-Fi usage, joining a select group of 60 countries globally.

The recent event, 'Unlocking Pakistan's Connectivity: Enablement of Next-Gen Wi-Fi in 6GHz Band,' marked a significant milestone in Pakistan's technological advancement. PTA Chairman Major General (retd) Hafeez Ur Rehman emphasized that this step has solidified Pakistan's position as a frontrunner in embracing the latest RLAN technology, aligning with progressive nations in Asia to harness the capabilities of Wi-Fi 6E.

Representatives from META, Dynamic Spectrum Alliance (DSA), Jazz, Nayatel, and Huawei discussed the benefits of Wi-Fi 6E adoption in Pakistan. Currently, Wi-Fi services in the country operate in the congested 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, shared with other devices like Microwave Ovens and Bluetooth, causing network congestion. The introduction of Wi-Fi 6E is set to alleviate these issues, offering a more efficient and reliable internet experience.

In line with the government's 'Digital Pakistan' vision, PTA aims to drive digital innovation, enhance business capabilities, and bridge the digital divide by providing improved high-speed internet access. This move is expected to foster a more inclusive digital economy in Pakistan, empowering individuals and businesses alike.
