Al-Nemer's childhood was filled with stories of women, both from her family and from the legends that shaped her community. She recalls, "Imagine, it’s an area that existed 600 years before Jesus." Living on Tarout Island, which is believed to be named after the Mesopotamian goddess Ishtar, Al-Nemer draws inspiration from her surroundings and the stories of her ancestors.

"She always called me the artist of the family," Al-Nemer shares, highlighting the importance of familial support in her journey. This nurturing environment allowed her to explore her creativity freely, even when it meant painting on the walls of their home. By the age of 18, Al-Nemer transitioned from being a student to a teacher, sharing her passion for art with others. Her journey took her to Jordan, where she studied interior design at Philadelphia University in Amman. "In Jordan, people were highly cultured. Its environment was rich with artists and poets," she recalls, emphasizing the impact of this exposure on her artistic development.

Initially, Al-Nemer experimented with various mediums, including oil paintings and charcoal, often creating self-portraits that sparked conversations within her family and community. She explains, "I think I was saying: 'I am Fatimah. Accept me for who I am.'" This bold declaration of identity and pride in her culture marked a significant turning point in her artistic journey. Over time, she expanded her focus to include the stories of other Saudi women, drawing inspiration from their experiences and struggles.

Her artwork, characterized by intricate, carpet-like designs, pays homage to the strength and resilience of Arab women. Adorned in traditional attire and surrounded by cultural symbols, her subjects reflect the rich heritage of her homeland. Al-Nemer states, "I try to embody the Arab woman with certain admirable qualities. She is the butterfly, the mother, the sister, the doctor. She is the giver." Through her art, she aims to convey the message that there is a "universe within" every woman, celebrating their contributions to society.

In her recent works, Al-Nemer often depicts women with their mouths or eyes covered, a choice that encourages viewers to focus on the details surrounding them. This artistic decision also reflects the creative limitations she faced in her early years, when figurative art was not widely accepted in Saudi Arabia. However, as the cultural landscape of the Kingdom evolves, Al-Nemer feels a newfound freedom in her artistic expression. "As artists, our lives have changed 180 degrees," she remarks, highlighting the transformative power of art in contemporary Saudi society.
