A fire at Lucky Plaza in Singapore led to the evacuation of twenty individuals, with two hospitalized. Quick public action prevented further escalation.
On Sunday, October 20, a fire incident occurred at Lucky Plaza, a popular shopping center located at 304 Orchard Road in Singapore. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the situation around 9:45 AM. This unfortunate event led to the evacuation of twenty individuals, while two people required medical attention and were taken to the hospital.
The fire was reported to have originated from a charcoal stove in a unit on the sixth floor of the building. Fortunately, before the SCDF arrived on the scene, members of the public acted quickly and managed to extinguish the flames using buckets of water. Their prompt actions likely prevented the situation from escalating further.
In a video shared on Facebook by a user named Mhae Moliyok, SCDF personnel can be seen at the entrance of the shopping mall shortly after the incident. An ambulance was also present nearby, indicating the seriousness of the situation. Despite the chaos, the atmosphere appeared calm, with the fire alarm ringing in the background.
Another eyewitness, Jane Z Hwee Mei, shared her experience on Facebook, describing how she was “greeted by a plume of smoke and burnt smell” while heading to a salon on the sixth floor. A firefighter later instructed everyone in the salon to evacuate, ensuring their safety.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety and preparedness in public spaces. It highlights how quick thinking and community action can make a significant difference in emergency situations. As we go about our daily lives, it is crucial to remain vigilant and aware of our surroundings, as well as to know the emergency procedures in place at the venues we frequent. By doing so, we can help ensure our safety and the safety of those around us.
