Jaishankar Confident in Strengthening India-US Relations Post-Election

In recent discussions, India's External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, expressed a strong belief that the relationship between India and the United States will continue to flourish, irrespective of the results of the upcoming US Presidential elections. This statement was made during a joint press conference with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong in Canberra, highlighting the importance of international alliances in today's geopolitical landscape.

Jaishankar emphasized the steady progress made in India-US relations over the past five presidencies, including the tenure of former President Donald Trump. He noted that the QUAD alliance, which includes the US, India, Japan, and Australia, was revitalized during Trump's presidency in 2017. This strategic partnership has become a cornerstone for cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, reflecting a shared commitment to security and stability.

During the press conference, Jaishankar remarked, "We have seen steady progress in our relationship with the US over the last five presidencies, including a previous Trump presidency." He further added, "So, when we look at the American election, we are confident that, regardless of the outcome, our relationship with the US will continue to grow." This confidence underscores the resilience of diplomatic ties that transcend political changes.

As the US approaches its 2024 Presidential election, the outcome is anticipated to be announced soon, although delays are not uncommon. With over 78 million Americans having already cast their votes, the electoral process remains a focal point of interest. The election is determined by the electoral college system, requiring candidates to secure at least 270 out of 538 electoral votes to win.

Jaishankar's visit to Australia is part of a two-nation tour, which will also take him to Singapore. His itinerary includes addressing the Indian diaspora and inaugurating a new consulate in Brisbane. He co-chaired the 15th Foreign Ministers' Framework Dialogue with Wong, discussing various global issues, including the Indo-Pacific region, West Asia, and the ongoing situation in Ukraine.
