President Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attend the inauguration of the restored Zangilan Mosque, symbolizing resilience and cultural preservation efforts in Azerbaijan.

The historic city of Zangilan witnessed a momentous occasion on May 18, as President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva graced the inauguration event of the new mosque. This significant milestone marked the culmination of efforts to reclaim and restore a vital piece of Azerbaijan's cultural heritage.

The foundation stone for the mosque was laid on April 26, 2021, following the city's liberation from occupation. Originally constructed in the 19th century, the mosque had endured a tumultuous past, serving as a stable during the period of occupation. Despite suffering substantial damage, with nearly 70 percent of its original structure lost, the mosque stood as a testament to resilience and the enduring spirit of the Azerbaijani people.

Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the support of PASHA Holding LLC, the restoration and reconstruction of the Zangilan Mosque became a reality. A team of local and international experts meticulously assessed the mosque's condition, paving the way for its preservation and restoration as part of a broader initiative to safeguard the region's historical, religious, and cultural landmarks.

As the Zangilan Mosque emerges from its tumultuous past, it stands not only as a place of worship but also as a symbol of resilience, heritage, and the unwavering commitment to preserving Azerbaijan's rich cultural legacy.
