Pro-Palestinian Protest in Rio Ahead of G20 Summit

Among the crowd was Giancarlo Pereira, a 43-year-old veterinarian, who articulated the connection between various leftist issues and the Palestinian cause. He remarked, “The big companies fueling the war (being conducted by Israel in Gaza) are the billionaires of the world.” This sentiment resonated with many participants, who believe that the struggles faced by Palestinians are intertwined with broader global challenges.

Not far from the main protest, another demonstration unfolded, where activists placed rows of plates with red crosses in the sand. These 733 plates symbolized the 733 million people worldwide who, according to the United Nations, suffered from hunger last year. Later in the day, another protest was organized by the Articulation of Indigenous People of Brazil, an umbrella group representing Brazilian Indigenous communities.
