Saudi Arabia Ranks 4th Globally in UN Digital Government Services Index

In recent years, the digital landscape has transformed how governments interact with their citizens. The United Nations has been at the forefront of measuring this transformation through its E-Government Development Index. In the latest report for 2024, Saudi Arabia has made remarkable strides, climbing 25 places to secure its position as a leader in the region and the fourth globally.

Saudi Arabia now ranks first in the Middle East and second among G20 nations on the digital services index. The country also secured seventh place on the e-participation index, with Riyadh being recognized as the third-best city among 193 cities worldwide. The Saudi Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Abdullah Al-Swaha, expressed gratitude towards King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their unwavering support. This backing has been crucial in driving the digital transformation of government services, aligning with the ambitious goals set out in the Saudi Vision 2030 plan. Furthermore, the governor of the Digital Government Authority, Ahmed Alsuwaiyan, emphasized that the Kingdom's progress in the index reflects the leadership's dedication to providing top-notch digital services. Since the launch of Vision 2030 in 2016, Saudi Arabia has climbed 53 places on the Telecommunications Infrastructure Index and made significant improvements in the Human Capital Index, advancing 31 places. The country has also improved its position on the Online Service Index by an impressive 67 places, achieving fourth place globally this year.

The UN report highlighted that Saudi Arabia has reached a maturity level of 100 percent in digital government regulations. This means that the Kingdom is not only providing services but is also ensuring that open government data is accessible to citizens and businesses. Additionally, Saudi Arabia advanced 60 places in terms of e-participation, showcasing its commitment to engaging with individuals and the business community.
