The Silk Road Cultural Expo in Dunhuang emphasizes global cooperation and cultural exchange among nations.

The Silk Road has long been a symbol of cultural exchange and cooperation among nations. This ancient trade route, which connected the East and West, has evolved into a modern platform for dialogue and collaboration. Recently, the 7th Silk Road (Dunhuang) International Cultural Expo took place in Dunhuang, China, bringing together over 800 representatives from 50 countries, regions, and international organizations. This event, which started on Saturday, aims to celebrate and promote cultural diversity while fostering global cooperation.

The expo is set to run for two days and features a variety of activities, including forums, cultural exhibitions, and artistic performances. These activities are designed to showcase the rich tapestry of Chinese culture and encourage discussions on global cultural cooperation. Notably, this is the third time that Shahbaz Khan, the director of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) regional office for East Asia, has represented his organization at this significant event. He emphasized that Dunhuang has emerged as a vital stage for cultural exchange, revitalizing the spirit of the Silk Road.

In his remarks, Khan highlighted the increasing importance of dialogue between civilizations, especially in a world facing numerous challenges related to peace and sustainable development. Participants at the expo echoed this sentiment, stating that exchanges and mutual learning between different cultures can enhance trust and inclusiveness among people from all nations. This, in turn, can contribute to global peace and development.

Fernando Lugris, the Uruguayan ambassador to China, also shared his insights at the expo. He pointed out that Uruguay was the first country in the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) to sign a memorandum of understanding on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) with China. Lugris stressed the importance of multilateralism, urging all parties to work together to safeguard global peace, development, prosperity, and modernization. He called for strengthened cooperation within the framework of the BRI, which aims to enhance connectivity and collaboration among countries.

As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, events like the Silk Road International Cultural Expo play a crucial role in fostering understanding and cooperation among diverse cultures. By promoting dialogue and cultural exchange, nations can work together to address global challenges and build a more peaceful and prosperous future. The spirit of the Silk Road continues to thrive, reminding us that through cooperation and mutual respect, we can overcome obstacles and create a better world for all.
