Indian travelers are increasingly visiting the Middle East, with a notable rise in tourism to UAE and Saudi Arabia during festive seasons.
In recent years, the trend of Indian travelers heading to the Middle East has seen a remarkable increase. This surge has been particularly noticeable during festive seasons, such as Diwali, when many families take the opportunity to travel. The Middle East, with its rich culture and modern attractions, has become a favored destination for Indian tourists, especially to countries like Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Tour operators have reported a significant rise in the number of trips to these Arab nations. According to Jyoti Mayal, the president of the Travel Agents Association of India, there was a "huge demand" for travel to the UAE during the recent festival season. She highlighted that Saudi Arabia and Qatar are also gaining popularity among Indian travelers. The appeal of these destinations lies in their relatively unexplored nature, which attracts more tourists eager to discover new places.
Travel agents from Gujarat, a western Indian state, have noted a shift in travel patterns. Manish Sharma, a tour agent based in Ahmedabad, mentioned that there has been an increase of "30 to 35 percent" in outbound travel to the Middle East compared to previous years. He pointed out that cities like Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Dubai are among the top choices for travelers. The reasons for this growth are clear: affordable travel packages, easy connectivity, and the proximity of these destinations make them attractive options for many.
Moreover, the Gujarati middle class is known for taking at least one or two vacations each year, with a preference for traveling to Dubai during Diwali and summer breaks. The increasing number of direct flights to the UAE has made travel even more accessible. For instance, there are at least 14 daily flights from Ahmedabad to Dubai, which has contributed to the rise in tourism.
Sharma noted that tourism to Dubai has grown phenomenally over the past year, attributing this growth to the increase in flight availability. He stated, "There has been an increase in Dubai travel in the last 10 years, and in the last three years, tourism has grown greatly." This trend indicates that more and more Indians are eager to explore the wonders of the Middle East.
The surge in Indian travelers to the Middle East reflects a broader trend of globalization and cultural exchange. As more people seek new experiences and adventures, destinations like the UAE and Saudi Arabia are poised to become even more popular. This not only benefits the travelers, who get to enjoy diverse cultures and cuisines, but also boosts the economies of these countries, creating a win-win situation for all involved. With the travel industry adapting to meet the needs of these eager tourists, the future looks bright for outbound tourism from India to the Middle East.
