The Growth for Rural Advancement and Sustainable Progress (GRASP) project in Balochistan aims to uplift the rural economy by focusing on agriculture and livestock sectors, creating employment opportunities, and addressing poverty and illiteracy challenges.

A new initiative, the Growth for Rural Advancement and Sustainable Progress (GRASP) project, has been launched in Balochistan with the aim of uplifting the province's rural economy. This project, funded by the European Union and implemented by the International Trade Centre (ITC) in collaboration with the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) and the Food & Agriculture Organisation (FAO), is set to bring about significant changes in the economic landscape of rural Balochistan.

The GRASP project focuses on the development of agriculture and livestock sectors, with a strong emphasis on strengthening the value-chain in various segments of the agricultural economy. By promoting small and medium enterprises in agri-businesses, the project aims to create employment opportunities and foster market growth in the region.

Nadir Gul, COO of PPAF, highlighted the positive impact that the GRASP project is expected to have on the 10 districts of Balochistan where it is being implemented. He praised the EU and ITC for their investment in the region, which has facilitated improved access to finance for agri-based SMEs and encouraged entrepreneurship in underdeveloped areas.

Jahanzeb Khan, GRASP provincial lead Balochistan, described the project as a unique intervention that will bring about positive change in communities and drive broader development in the province through agricultural transformation. Grants awarded to SMEs will focus on gender mainstreaming, policy shifts, access to finance, networking, capacity building, and product improvement programmes.

Despite being rich in natural resources and having a vast coastline offering trade and fisheries opportunities, Balochistan faces challenges such as high levels of multidimensional poverty and illiteracy. The GRASP project aims to address these issues and contribute to the overall socio-economic development of the province.

In conclusion, the GRASP project holds promise for transforming the rural economy of Balochistan and improving the lives of its underprivileged population. With a strategic focus on empowering SMEs and fostering inclusive growth, this initiative is poised to make a significant impact on the economic landscape of the region.
