Pakistan seizes trade opportunities at CIIE 2023, showcasing products and fostering connections in the expansive Chinese market.

Pakistan is currently witnessing a significant opportunity for its businesses to expand their horizons in the vast Chinese market. The 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE), taking place in Shanghai, serves as a crucial platform for countries like Pakistan to present their products and connect with potential consumers and business partners in China. This event is not just a trade fair; it is a gateway for Pakistani companies to tap into one of the largest markets in the world.

During the Expo, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, highlighted the presence of over two dozen Pakistani companies showcasing a variety of traditional handicrafts, textiles, and agricultural products. Notably, well-known rice and clothing brands are among the exhibitors, demonstrating the rich cultural heritage and quality of Pakistani goods. Ambassador Hashmi pointed out that the CIIE is particularly beneficial for developing countries, allowing them to gain visibility and establish valuable connections.

One of the key messages from Ambassador Hashmi was the importance of embracing China’s economic approach, which emphasizes openness and shared prosperity. This strategy presents a unique opportunity for Pakistani businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to thrive. As the e-commerce sector continues to grow and significantly contribute to China’s GDP, the ambassador encouraged Pakistani companies to explore online platforms. By doing so, they can enhance their visibility and increase sales in this expansive market.

Ambassador Hashmi expressed optimism that more sectors in Pakistan, such as food, electronics, and information technology, would follow suit. He urged these enterprises to innovate and collaborate with the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) to access the vast opportunities available in China. The ambassador also noted that last year’s CIIE attracted over 3,400 exhibitors and 410,000 professional visitors, including numerous business leaders and investors keen on establishing import partnerships.

According to customs statistics, China’s total imports and exports reached an impressive 41.76 trillion yuan (approximately $5.88 trillion) in 2023, marking a 0.2% increase from the previous year. This statistic underscores the importance of the Chinese market for international trade and highlights the potential for Pakistani companies to increase their exports.

The ongoing CIIE presents a golden opportunity for Pakistani businesses to broaden their networks and enhance their exports to China and beyond. By working closely with TDAP and leveraging the resources available at the Expo, Pakistani companies can not only boost their sales but also contribute to the overall economic growth of Pakistan. The time is ripe for Pakistani enterprises to seize this opportunity and make their mark in the global market.
