The Federal Minister of Industries and Production and National Food Security, Rana Tanveer Hussain, emphasized the government's commitment to boosting the export of livestock from Pakistan. This focus stems from the sector's significant contribution of around 62% to the country's agricultural GDP. Highlighting the importance of the livestock industry in Pakistan's agricultural economy, Hussain noted its connection to approximately eight million families. He underscored the immense potential for earning foreign exchange through this sector, citing Pakistan's position as the fourth largest milk-producing country.

Hussain outlined the government's mission to develop the agricultural sector and increase livestock exports. He mentioned the drafting of a bill aimed at regulating veterinary sciences and animal welfare, a first in Pakistan's history. The bill, soon to be presented to the cabinet for approval, reflects the government's proactive approach to safeguarding livestock from diseases.

Efforts to strengthen the surveillance system for disease prevention and the creation of real-time data on animal diseases were highlighted. Additionally, plans for implementing a track and trace system to monitor animal movement were discussed. Commissioner Livestock Dr. Akram briefed the minister on livestock challenges, while Federal Secretary Food Security Capt (r) Muhammad Asif was also present during the session.
