The Fertilizer Review Committee in Islamabad recommends importing urea fertilizer to meet increased demand during the Kharif season, ensuring food security and supporting farmers.
The Fertilizer Review Committee in Islamabad has recommended the import of urea fertilizer for the upcoming Kharif season. Chaired by Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain, the committee emphasized the immediate import of 200,000 metric tons of urea fertilizer to prevent any shortages. This decision comes as the demand for urea fertilizer during the Kharif season is reported to be 3.6% higher than the previous year.
Rana Tanveer Hussain highlighted that the primary objective of this import is to ensure food security within the country and to enhance the productivity of farmers. He assured that farmers will have a continuous supply of urea fertilizer during the Kharif season, with all local urea fertilizer plants operating at maximum capacity. The government is also committed to providing uninterrupted gas supply to the fertilizer industry to support the farmers.
The final verdict on the import of urea fertilizer will be made by the Economic Coordination Committee in their upcoming meeting, further solidifying the government's efforts to bolster agricultural productivity and food security in the nation.
