Siemens Pakistan has approved the sale of its energy business to Siemens Gamesa for Rs 17.82 billion, aligning with global energy strategies.
Siemens Pakistan has recently made a significant decision regarding its energy business. The company’s Board of Directors has approved the sale and transfer of this segment to Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (Private) Limited, a non-affiliated entity within the Siemens Energy Group. This move is part of a broader strategy that aligns with Siemens AG's plans to spin off its energy business, a decision that was initially made back in 2020.
In a notice shared with the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), Siemens Pakistan disclosed that the energy segment was sold for approximately Rs 17.82 billion, based on a valuation date of March 31, 2024. Interestingly, the net book value of the energy business at that same date was around Rs 17.61 billion. This indicates that the sale was conducted at a premium, which is a positive sign for the company and its stakeholders.
The decision to proceed with this sale follows an in-principle approval from the Board of Directors during a meeting held on March 10, 2023. This approval was communicated to the members through a formal letter shortly thereafter. Furthermore, the company has taken into account an independent fairness opinion provided by a global audit and consulting firm, ensuring that the transaction is in the best interest of its shareholders.
It is important to note that the finalization of this transaction is contingent upon receiving necessary approvals from shareholders and other regulatory bodies. This step is crucial as it ensures that all legal and financial aspects are thoroughly vetted before the deal is closed.
The sale of Siemens Pakistan's energy business to Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy marks a pivotal moment for the company. It not only reflects a strategic shift in its operations but also underscores the importance of aligning with global trends in the energy sector. As the world moves towards more sustainable energy solutions, this transaction positions Siemens Pakistan to better focus on its core competencies while contributing to the broader goals of renewable energy development in the region. Stakeholders and investors will be keenly watching how this transition unfolds in the coming months.
