Washington DC: The World Bank has approved a total of 149.7 million dollars for two significant projects in Pakistan. The funding includes support for the digital economy and flood protection initiatives in the country.

The Digital Economy Enhancement Project has been allocated 78 million dollars, emphasizing the importance of advancing the digital sector for overall economic and social progress. This project aims to enhance economic efficiency by digitizing government institutions, thereby streamlining processes and services. By leveraging technology and data-driven decision-making, the project seeks to modernize the financial system, paving the way for sustainable growth and development.

Furthermore, 71.7 million dollars have been designated for the improvement project of barrages in Sindh. The World Bank highlights that this project will play a crucial role in bolstering the resilience of the canal system, ultimately mitigating the adverse impacts of floods and droughts. By enhancing the infrastructure and operational capacity of the barrages, the project aims to safeguard communities and vital agricultural lands from natural disasters.

In a tragic incident unrelated to the World Bank projects, four children lost their lives and ten others sustained injuries following a collision between a school van and a tractor trolley in Toba. The authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident to determine the causes and prevent such incidents in the future.
