Ahsan Iqbal Reiterates Support for Neelum Jhelum and Diamer Bhasha Projects

The Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project and the Diamer Bhasha Dam are two significant initiatives aimed at enhancing Pakistan's energy security and water management. These projects are crucial for the country, as they promise to generate much-needed electricity and provide water storage solutions. Today, during a meeting held in Islamabad, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal emphasized the importance of these projects. He stated, "We must ensure that all obstacles are addressed promptly to facilitate the timely commencement of these vital initiatives." The minister's remarks highlight the urgency of resolving land-related issues that have been a significant barrier to the projects' advancement.

The Neelum Jhelum project, located in Azad Kashmir, is designed to produce approximately 969 megawatts of electricity. Meanwhile, the Diamer Bhasha Dam, situated in Gilgit-Baltistan, is expected to generate around 4,500 megawatts and provide substantial water storage capacity. Both projects are not only essential for meeting the growing energy demands of the country but also play a pivotal role in flood control and irrigation.

During the meeting, Ahsan Iqbal directed relevant authorities to prioritize the resolution of land acquisition issues. He stressed that without addressing these challenges, the projects would face unnecessary delays, which could have long-term implications for Pakistan's energy landscape.
