The seminar at Sir Syed University addresses workplace harassment issues faced by women, emphasizing the importance of enforcing laws to protect women's rights and dignity.

The Centre for Guidance, Career Planning, and Placement at Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology recently hosted a seminar shedding light on the Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010. The seminar aimed to address the pressing issue of harassment faced by women in educational and professional settings.

The Federal Ombudsperson for Protection Against Harassment, Fauzia Waqar, stressed the severity of harassment problems encountered by women, often leading them to abandon their education or jobs due to the lack of protection. She emphasized the constitutional duty to safeguard the rights of women and children, advocating for the establishment of Harassment Enquiry Committees in every institution.

Registrar SSUET, Cdre. (retd) Syed Sarfraz Ali, highlighted the importance of the Act in creating a safe and respectful work environment for women in Pakistan. By enforcing this legislation, women are ensured the right to work without fear, preserving their fundamental right to dignity. Harassment not only violates one's dignity but also impedes women's ability to work and contribute to society.

It was emphasized that harassment is not confined to a specific gender and necessitates collective action to protect victims and promote the reporting of such incidents. The prevalent culture of harassment must be challenged, with endeavors directed towards fostering a more supportive environment. Defined as any unwelcome sexual advance causing discomfort or distress without a legitimate purpose, harassment undermines the well-being of individuals.

Dr. Muhammad Aamir, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, highlighted the seminar's alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 5, which aims to advance gender equality and empower women and girls. By raising awareness of workplace harassment laws, the university contributes to a global initiative of cultivating a safe, respectful, and dignified atmosphere for all members of the academic and professional community.

The seminar on the Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010, served as a crucial platform to address the pervasive issue of harassment faced by women. By advocating for the enforcement of laws protecting women's rights and dignity, the seminar underscored the significance of creating a safe and inclusive environment for all individuals. It is imperative for institutions and society as a whole to combat harassment and promote a culture of respect and support, ensuring the well-being and empowerment of women in educational and professional spheres.
