IBCC announces increased grace marks for matric and inter students, enhancing support under the new exam policy for 2025.

LAHORE – In a significant development for students across Pakistan, the Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) has announced an increase in grace marks for matriculation and intermediate examinations. This change, part of the new Exam Policy for the year 2025, aims to provide much-needed support to students striving to meet the new passing criteria.

Under the revised policy, teachers will now have the authority to grant up to five grace marks to students. This is an increase from the previous limit of three grace marks, which many educators and students found insufficient. The new passing threshold has been set at 40 marks, making it crucial for students to have this additional support. However, it is important to note that grace marks can only be awarded for a maximum of two subjects. If a student fails in a third subject, they will not be eligible for any grace marks.

This decision was reached during a two-day meeting of the IBCC, which included education board chairmen from all four provinces, along with IBCC Executive Director Ghulam Ali Mallah and other provincial education officials. The meeting was a platform for discussing various educational reforms, and the increase in grace marks was one of the key outcomes.

In addition to the grace marks policy, the board officials also approved several other initiatives aimed at supporting students. Notably, they have introduced fee concessions for orphan students and added an orphan status field to exam forms. These measures reflect a growing recognition of the challenges faced by vulnerable students and the need for a more inclusive educational environment.

As we look ahead to the implementation of these changes in 2025, it is essential for students, parents, and educators to stay informed and prepared. The increase in grace marks is a positive step towards easing the pressure on students, but it also emphasizes the importance of hard work and dedication in achieving academic success. With these new policies in place, students are encouraged to take advantage of the support available to them while striving to meet the new standards set forth by the IBCC.
