Security forces recover two IEDs in Poonch, J&K, amid rising terror threats and ongoing operations against overground workers.

In recent times, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a concerning rise in terror-related incidents, prompting security forces to intensify their operations in the region. On November 29, 2023, security forces successfully recovered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along with other explosive materials in Poonch district. This operation underscores the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and ensure the safety of the local population.

The recovery took place under the Chajla bridge in the Mendhar area of Poonch, where a suspicious object was discovered. Following this alarming find, officials cordoned off the area and summoned a bomb disposal squad to assess the situation. During their investigation, they uncovered two IEDs, over a kilogram of explosive material believed to be RDX, a battery, two blankets, and some food items. Authorities are currently conducting further investigations to ascertain the origins and intended targets of these explosives.

In a broader context, the police in the Jammu division have been actively pursuing terrorists and their overground workers (OGWs) across four districts: Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi, and Doda. This crackdown has been ongoing for the past three days, resulting in the apprehension of over a dozen OGWs. The security forces are determined to dismantle the terror networks that have been increasingly active in the region, especially following a series of violent incidents in recent months.

Notably, on October 20, a tragic attack occurred when two terrorists opened fire indiscriminately at a workers' camp in Ganderbal district, resulting in the deaths of seven individuals, including six non-local workers and a local doctor. Just days later, on October 24, another attack in Gulmarg led to the deaths of five people, including three soldiers. The situation escalated further on November 2, when a grenade was thrown into a busy market in Srinagar, killing a woman and injuring nine others.

In response to these escalating threats, Jammu and Kashmir's Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, has held two high-level security review meetings. During these discussions, he emphasized the need for security forces to take decisive action against the terror ecosystem, which includes not only the terrorists themselves but also their supporters and sympathizers.

The recovery of IEDs in Poonch serves as a stark reminder of the persistent threat posed by terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. It highlights the critical role of security forces in safeguarding the region and the importance of community vigilance in reporting suspicious activities. As the situation continues to evolve, it is essential for residents to remain aware and supportive of the efforts to restore peace and security in their communities.
