The Islamabad High Court directs ISI and MI sector commanders to submit reports in the case of a missing person, emphasizing accountability and transparency in the judiciary.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed the sector commanders of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI) in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir to provide written reports with their signatures regarding the case of missing person Khurshid Ahmed from AJK. The petition was lodged by Khaleeqa Khurshid, the daughter of the missing individual who has been missing for the past 18 days.

During the court session, the Deputy Attorney General (DAG) presented reports on behalf of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), confirming that the detainee is not in their custody. The Law Officer from the Ministry of Defence requested more time to submit reports on behalf of ISI and MI. Justice Kayani instructed the Sector Commanders of ISI and MI to furnish their reports with their signatures.

The public prosecutor informed the court that no police case had been registered against Khurshid. Justice Kayani inquired about the status of the Defence Ministry's report, emphasizing the necessity of signatures from ISI and MI sector commanders. He stressed that appropriate measures should be taken if Khurshid is found to be involved in any criminal or anti-state activities.

Khaleeqa filed a writ petition seeking the recovery of her father, who was allegedly abducted on 07.6.2024 from Chakri Road, Rawalpindi. Despite the lodging of a First Information Report (FIR), the missing person has not been located. The petitioner's counsel argued that this amounts to an enforced disappearance. The court has postponed the hearing of the case until June 24.

The Islamabad High Court's directive to the ISI and MI sector commanders to submit reports with their signatures in the case of the missing person reflects the judiciary's commitment to ensuring accountability and transparency. The court's emphasis on investigating any potential criminal or anti-state activities involving the missing individual underscores the importance of upholding the rule of law and protecting citizens' rights.
