Larkana gears up for Benazir Bhutto's 17th death anniversary with extensive security and logistical arrangements to honor her legacy.
As the nation prepares to commemorate the 17th death anniversary of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto on December 27, 2024, significant arrangements are underway in Larkana. This annual event not only honors the legacy of one of Pakistan's most prominent political figures but also draws thousands of visitors to her ancestral home in Garhi Khudabakhsh Bhutto. The local administration is keen on ensuring that the event proceeds smoothly, reflecting the respect and admiration held for Bhutto.
In a recent meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Larkana, Sharjeel Noor Channa, various officials gathered to discuss the necessary preparations. The meeting, held in the Darbar Hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office, emphasized the importance of collaboration among different departments to facilitate a successful event. The Deputy Commissioner urged all officers to fulfill their responsibilities diligently, highlighting the need for a well-coordinated effort.
One of the primary concerns addressed during the meeting was the maintenance of law and order. The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Larkana, Mir Rohal Khan Khoso, was tasked with ensuring security measures are in place, with approximately 8,000 police personnel set to be deployed on the day of the anniversary. This significant police presence aims to provide a safe environment for attendees, allowing them to pay their respects without concern.
In addition to security, the meeting also focused on logistical arrangements. The Deputy Commissioner instructed the Director of Local Government and Municipal Commissioner to enhance the cleaning process in the area, ensuring that the surroundings are tidy for the influx of guests. Clean drinking water supply was also a priority, with the Public Health Engineering Department being urged to guarantee its availability.
Moreover, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of uninterrupted power supply during the event. SEPCO officials were directed to avoid load shedding and ensure that standby generators are operational. This is crucial, as power outages could disrupt the proceedings and inconvenience attendees.
Health services were another focal point of the discussions. The health department was instructed to set up medical camps, ensuring that doctors, paramedics, and necessary medicines are readily available. Ambulances will be on standby, and mobile medical services will be deployed along the routes leading to Garhi Khudabakhsh Bhutto, ensuring that any medical emergencies can be promptly addressed.
Furthermore, the Building and Roads Department was tasked with completing the remaining works related to signboards, car parking, and road maintenance. This is essential to ensure that guests can navigate the area easily and without any hassle. The Deputy Commissioner also called for all district officials to prepare their contingency plans, reinforcing the need for readiness in the face of any unforeseen circumstances.
Chairman of the District Council Larkana, Ejaz Ahmed Laghari, expressed gratitude towards the Deputy Commissioner for convening the meeting, stating, "It is a good step." He echoed the importance of cleanliness, sanitation, lighting, traffic management, health facilities, and parking arrangements to ensure a seamless experience for all attendees.
As the date approaches, the collective efforts of the local administration and law enforcement agencies will be crucial in honoring the memory of Benazir Bhutto. This event not only serves as a tribute to her legacy but also as a reminder of the importance of unity and cooperation in the face of challenges. The successful execution of these arrangements will reflect the respect and love the people of Pakistan hold for their leaders and their history.
