KARACHI - Major General Muhammad Shamraiz has officially taken over as the Director General (DG) of the Sindh Rangers, marking a significant transition in the leadership of this vital security force. The change of command ceremony took place at the Rangers headquarters, where the outgoing DG, Major General Azhar Waqas, who has been awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz Military, formally handed over the reins to Major General Shamraiz. This event was attended by key figures, including the Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) and other senior officers, highlighting the importance of this leadership change.
Major General Azhar Waqas has been at the helm of the Sindh Rangers since 2022, and his tenure has been marked by notable achievements in maintaining law and order in the province. As he passed on the responsibility to his successor, Major General Shamraiz, a grand farewell and reception was organized by the Sindh police at the Central Police Office in Karachi. This event was attended by Sindh Police Chief Ghulam Nabi Memon, outgoing DG Rangers Major General Azhar Waqas, and the new DG Rangers Muhammad Shamraiz, along with other senior officers from both the police and Rangers.
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, setting a respectful tone for the proceedings. During the event, the IGP presented a shield to Major General Azhar Waqas in recognition of his commendable services in Sindh. Expressing gratitude, Major General Waqas acknowledged the support he received from his colleagues, stating, “I sincerely hope that you will progress due to your hard work, professionalism, and dedication.” He emphasized the importance of teamwork and collective decision-making, which he believes are crucial for effective law enforcement.
Major General Waqas also praised the Sindh Police for their efforts, stating, “You have always given importance to collective thinking and also supported us on our suggestions.” He highlighted the collaborative spirit between the Rangers and the police, which has been instrumental in tackling crime and ensuring public safety. The IGP noted that the Rangers have played a vital role in maintaining law and order in Karachi and have significantly contributed to the success of the Sindh police.
In recent operations, the police and Rangers have achieved remarkable results, including the elimination of nine robbers and the injury of over 30 others during a recent operation in Shikarpur. This success is attributed to the joint efforts of both forces, showcasing the effectiveness of their collaboration. The IGP remarked that the end of no-go areas has allowed schools and hospitals to resume their activities, further indicating the positive impact of their operations on community safety.
As Major General Shamraiz steps into his new role, he faces the challenge of continuing the momentum established by his predecessor. The IGP expressed confidence in Shamraiz’s capabilities, stating, “I pray that whenever you go from Sindh, you go promoted.” The emphasis on unity and cooperation between the police and Rangers is seen as a cornerstone for achieving lasting peace in Karachi, which is crucial for the overall stability of the country.
The transition of leadership within the Sindh Rangers is not just a change in personnel; it represents a commitment to maintaining security and order in a region that has faced its share of challenges. The collaborative efforts between the Rangers and the Sindh police are essential for fostering a safe environment for citizens. As Major General Shamraiz embarks on this new journey, the hope is that he will build upon the foundation laid by Major General Waqas, ensuring that Karachi remains a peaceful city for all its residents.
