Major General Muhammad Shamraiz has officially taken charge as DG Rangers Sindh, enhancing security measures and public safety in Karachi.
KARACHI: Major General Muhammad Shamraiz has officially taken charge as the Director General (DG) of Sindh Rangers, marking a significant transition in the leadership of this vital security force. The formal handover of command occurred on Friday, with Major General Azhar Waqas passing the baton to his successor during a ceremony held at the Rangers headquarters in Sindh. The event was attended by Inspector General (IG) Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon and several high-ranking officials, underscoring the importance of this leadership change.
The Sindh Rangers have become increasingly crucial in maintaining law and order in Karachi, especially as local police have struggled to effectively manage rising criminal activities. In response to these challenges, the Rangers have stepped up their efforts to ensure the safety of citizens. They have also provided essential information on how individuals can seek assistance during emergencies, demonstrating their commitment to public safety.
Deputy Superintendent Rangers (DSR) Mazhar Abbas emphasized that the Pakistan Rangers in Sindh are dedicated to protecting the lives and property of the community. The Rangers have established an emergency helpline, 1101, which is designed to offer swift assistance to those in urgent situations. When citizens call this helpline, a well-coordinated command and control system at the Rangers headquarters springs into action, ensuring that help is dispatched promptly.
The command room at the Rangers headquarters is equipped with multiple monitoring screens, including a detailed route map of Karachi, and various areas of the city are under constant CCTV surveillance. This advanced setup allows the Rangers to respond quickly and efficiently to emergencies. DSR Mazhar Abbas explained that the 1101 helpline functions as a quick response force, with teams capable of addressing complaints within just 3 to 5 minutes.
Citizens can reach out to the Rangers through various platforms, including WhatsApp, text messages, email, and the SOS application. Complaints received are categorized into two types: those requiring immediate action and those needing further verification. For urgent matters, a mobile vigilance team is dispatched to the location of the complaint, while calls that require verification are thoroughly investigated before any action is taken.
As Major General Muhammad Shamraiz steps into his new role, the expectations are high. The Sindh Rangers are not just a law enforcement agency; they are a lifeline for many citizens in Karachi. With the challenges of urban crime and safety concerns, the Rangers' proactive approach and commitment to community service will be vital in fostering a safer environment for all. The transition in leadership brings hope for enhanced security measures and a renewed focus on the well-being of the citizens they serve.
