Over 100 women graduate from a sewing course in Amynabad, gaining skills and sewing machines for financial independence and empowerment.
In a significant step towards women's empowerment in Pakistan, the Amynabad Vocational Training Center recently celebrated the graduation of over 100 women who successfully completed a three-month sewing and stitching course. This initiative, launched by the Aga Khan Higher Secondary School Amynabad, aims to uplift women from disadvantaged backgrounds by providing them with essential skills that can lead to better job opportunities and improved socio-economic conditions.
Project organizer Qasim Pirji addressed the attendees during the graduation ceremony, emphasizing the importance of equipping women with practical skills. He stated, "Our goal is to empower women so they can enhance their socio-economic status and contribute positively to their families and communities." With more than 50 years of experience in community service across Sindh, Pirji also announced plans to expand this project to other regions, aiming to improve the quality of life for marginalized communities.
Reflecting on past successes, Pirji shared that in 2022 and 2023, they trained 150 women from the Bagri community in Ghafor Basti, Hyderabad. As part of the graduation ceremony, each participant received a sewing machine, enabling them to put their newly acquired skills into practice. This gesture not only symbolizes their achievement but also serves as a tool for financial independence.
Among the graduates, Salma Fazal expressed her heartfelt gratitude towards the institute, stating, "This training has given hope to hopeless and jobless women like me." Her words resonate with many who have faced similar challenges. Another graduate, Nasreen, highlighted the significance of such empowerment initiatives, saying, "Such programs will pave the way for women’s progress in the future." These sentiments reflect a growing recognition of the vital role women play in society.
Noorul Huda, the in-charge of the training center, congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to actively contribute to societal progress. She remarked, "Women are no longer suppressed; they are empowered agents of change." This statement underscores a transformative shift in societal attitudes towards women, emphasizing their potential to drive change.
The graduation ceremony concluded with awards presented to outstanding performers, celebrating their hard work and dedication. This event not only marks a milestone for the graduates but also serves as a beacon of hope for many women in similar situations.
Initiatives like the sewing and stitching course at the Amynabad Vocational Training Center are crucial in fostering a culture of empowerment and self-sufficiency among women. As these graduates step into their new roles as skilled individuals, they carry with them the potential to inspire others and contribute to a more equitable society. The journey towards gender equality is ongoing, but with each step taken, the vision of a better future for women in Pakistan becomes increasingly attainable.
