The Pakistan military plans to acquire 3,481 kanals of land in Haripur for defense, raising concerns among local residents and stakeholders.
In a recent development that has sparked discussions across social media platforms, an alleged letter has surfaced, indicating that the Pakistan military plans to acquire approximately 4,000 kanals of land in the Haripur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This letter, dated July 10, was reportedly written by the Military Estate Officer in Abbottabad Cantt and addressed to the deputy commissioner of Haripur. The document outlines the military's intention to secure land for defense purposes, raising questions about its authenticity among users online.
The letter specifies that the military aims to acquire a total of 3,481 kanals and 17 marlas of land located in the villages of Kenthla and Kot Jandan, within the tehsil of Khanpur. It instructs the deputy commissioner to coordinate with revenue officials to prepare necessary documents, including land records and estimated costs. While some social media users and journalists have expressed skepticism regarding the letter's legitimacy, two government officials have confirmed its authenticity.
Ijaz Khan Jadoon, the additional assistant commissioner of revenue in Haripur, stated that his office did receive the letter. He explained that there were plans for housing societies on the land, but due to the proximity of a proposed army headquarters, the military issued a letter of intent to acquire the land for security reasons. Jadoon mentioned that the land acquisition process would take between six to twelve months, emphasizing that the area is located behind Islamabad’s Margalla Hills.
Additionally, Khanzada Khan, a tehsildar in Khanpur, whose signature appears on the letter, also confirmed its authenticity. He noted that the land in question is private property. However, despite multiple attempts, the deputy commissioner of Haripur has not responded to requests for comments regarding this matter.
This situation highlights the ongoing discussions about land acquisition for military purposes in Pakistan, raising concerns among local residents and stakeholders. As the process unfolds, it remains crucial for the authorities to maintain transparency and communicate effectively with the public to address any apprehensions.
