PHA demolishes an illegal structure at Mochi Gate, Lahore, reinforcing commitment to green spaces and construction regulations.
In a significant move to uphold the integrity of public spaces, the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) took decisive action on Tuesday by demolishing an illegal multi-story structure at Mochi Gate in Lahore. This operation underscores the authority's commitment to maintaining green spaces and ensuring that construction activities adhere to approved guidelines.
The building in question was initially sanctioned as a 2,000 square-foot facility intended for a boxing academy. However, the owners of the academy exceeded the agreed-upon dimensions, leading to multiple notices from the PHA demanding the removal of the unauthorized additions. Despite these warnings, the academy failed to comply, prompting the PHA to cancel the construction contract.
On the day of the demolition, an enforcement team, supported by a police contingent and equipped with heavy machinery, executed the operation. The team was led by Additional Director General Zeeshan Nasrullah Ranjha, who emphasized the importance of adhering to regulations. Director General Muhammad Tahir Wattoo confirmed that the PHA is resolute in its mission to combat encroachments and illegal constructions in green spaces, stating that there will be no exceptions.
This demolition is part of a broader initiative by the PHA to target illegal structures, particularly those encroaching on green belts. In recent weeks, the authority has dismantled several unauthorized commercial and residential buildings along the Satokatla Drain area. Additionally, numerous business and directional signs that had been improperly installed in green spaces across the city have also been removed.
The actions taken by the PHA serve as a reminder of the importance of following construction regulations and respecting public spaces. Illegal constructions not only disrupt the aesthetic appeal of our environment but also pose safety risks to the community. As Lahore continues to grow, it is crucial for both authorities and citizens to work together to preserve the city’s green areas for future generations. By adhering to established guidelines, we can ensure that our urban landscape remains both beautiful and functional.
