Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation has approved a budget of Rs6.82 billion for the fiscal year 2024-25, showcasing a surplus of Rs346.3 million. The budget focuses on strategic allocation of funds towards development, maintenance, and non-development expenses to enhance the city's infrastructure and services.

The Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has recently given the green light to a budget of Rs6.82 billion for the fiscal year 2024-25, showcasing a surplus of Rs346.3 million. This budget, sanctioned by Rawalpindi Commissioner Engineer Aamir Khattak in the absence of local body representatives, is divided into Rs6.48 billion for both development and non-development expenses, slightly lower than the anticipated total income.

Commencing from July 1, the upcoming budget anticipates a total income of Rs3.45 billion from various revenue streams. These sources encompass Rs520 million from urban immovable property tax (UIP), Rs550 million from transfer property tax (TIP), Rs800 million from commercialization, and Rs110 million from building application fees. Moreover, revenue is projected from penalty compound fees, slaughterhouse leases, bus stand entry fees, car parking fees, and other avenues.

Having already utilized Rs1.84 billion from the allocated Rs2.30 billion for ongoing development projects from the previous fiscal year, the municipality plans to allocate the remaining Rs460 million towards enhancing the city's infrastructure, roads, drains, and other constructions. For the upcoming year, Rs1.96 billion has been earmarked for the Annual Development Programme (ADP) to support various development schemes.

Additionally, Rs2 billion has been set aside for maintenance and repair works, including the acquisition of new official vehicles worth Rs30 million, due to the rising maintenance costs of existing vehicles. Furthermore, Rs1.76 billion has been allocated for non-development expenses, with a notable portion designated for non-salary expenditures, electricity bills, service delivery vehicles, increased salaries, financial support, and pensions.

The approval of the Rs6.82 billion budget by the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation for the upcoming financial year reflects a strategic allocation of funds towards development, maintenance, and non-development expenses. This budget aims to enhance the city's infrastructure and services, ensuring sustainable growth and efficient utilization of resources.
