Cambridge O and A level exams will proceed in Islamabad during the SCO summit public holiday from October 14 to 16.
In a significant announcement, authorities in Islamabad have confirmed that institutions conducting the Cambridge O and A level examinations will remain operational during the upcoming three-day public holiday. This holiday, recently declared by the federal government, is in preparation for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, which is set to take place in the capital city.
Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz, took to his official X account to clarify the situation. He stated, "It is clarified that all the examinations scheduled between 14 till 16 October 2024 will be held as per schedule." He further emphasized that "All the examination centres in Islamabad will remain open," ensuring that students can continue their academic pursuits without interruption.
The public holiday, which spans from October 14 to 16, is part of Pakistan's efforts to facilitate the smooth conduct of the high-level SCO summit. This important meeting will see participation from nine full members, including major countries such as China, India, Iran, and Russia, and is scheduled for October 15 and 16.
For students, this means that the Cambridge examinations will proceed as planned at three designated centres across Islamabad, specifically located in Sector E-11, Sector H8, and Noor Mahal at the GT Road. This decision is crucial for students who have been preparing diligently for their exams and would have faced significant stress if their schedules were disrupted.
In addition to the examination updates, officials have also announced the temporary closure of marriage halls, restaurants, and cafes in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad from October 12 to 16. This measure aims to ensure security and manage the flow of activities during the summit. Police have issued warnings to traders and hotel owners, indicating that any violations of these regulations will lead to penalties.
As the SCO summit approaches, it is essential for students and the general public to stay informed about these developments. The decision to keep examination centres open reflects a commitment to education, even amidst significant national events. It is a reminder that while the country prepares for international discussions, the academic aspirations of its youth remain a priority. Students should take this opportunity to focus on their studies and approach their examinations with confidence, knowing that their efforts will not be in vain.
