Sehat Card Plus Program Benefits 600,000 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

PESHAWAR: The Sehat Card Plus (SCP) program has made significant strides in providing free healthcare services to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Launched by the PTI-led government, the initiative aims to ensure that every citizen has access to essential medical care without the burden of financial strain. Since its resumption in March this year, the program has reportedly benefited 600,000 individuals, showcasing the government's commitment to public health.

According to Ihtesham Ali, the Advisor to the Chief Minister on Health, the SCP has been a game-changer for many families. He stated that Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur has directed the inclusion of more hospitals in the SCP panel, which will enhance the availability of services for patients. This move is particularly important as the program had been temporarily halted during the caretaker government, but it was prioritized and quickly reinstated once the current administration took charge.

Over the past eight months, the SCP has allocated a staggering Rs24 billion to provide free healthcare to 689,523 residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as well as individuals from other provinces holding national identity cards from the region. This financial commitment underscores the government's dedication to ensuring that healthcare is accessible to all, regardless of their economic status.

Breaking down the statistics, Ihtesham Ali revealed that among the beneficiaries, 322,701 were men and 366,821 were women. The program has facilitated cashless services, with 197,305 individuals receiving treatment in private hospitals and 93,216 in public hospitals. This data highlights the widespread impact of the SCP, demonstrating that it is indeed a lifeline for many families.

Furthermore, Ihtesham Ali emphasized the importance of utilizing the SCP, urging citizens to take full advantage of this facility for a healthier future. He noted that the program exemplifies the government's unwavering commitment to providing equitable and accessible healthcare for all citizens.

In addition to the SCP, a free Outpatient Department (OPD) program has been approved to commence in four districts on a pilot basis. If successful, this initiative will be expanded to benefit the entire population of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This expansion reflects a proactive approach to healthcare, ensuring that even those who do not require hospitalization can receive necessary medical attention.
