AJK Prime Minister Announces Rs23 Billion Financial Package

In a recent development, the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) commended the swift action taken by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif in addressing the grievances of protesters. Despite economic challenges, a substantial financial package of Rs23 billion was announced to meet the demands of the demonstrators. It was clarified that this move did not entail any change in AJK's status to become a province of Pakistan. The package included reductions in power tariffs and an increase in wheat flour subsidies, aligning with the protesters' requests.

The Prime Minister expressed disappointment towards the leaders of the Joint Awami Action Committee for causing delays in accepting the demands, which resulted in regrettable incidents. He assured that individuals instigating disorder would be held accountable under the law to uphold the strong relationship between Pakistan and AJK. Notably, the police exhibited restraint and refrained from using force against the protesters, maintaining a peaceful environment.

Following the announcement of subsidies, the government successfully implemented lower flour and electricity prices, with a specific focus on preventing the misuse of subsidized rates. Measures to combat power theft and the smuggling of essential goods were also promised to ensure equitable distribution and prevent exploitation by unscrupulous individuals.

Addressing the issue of privileges for government officials, the Prime Minister emphasized that his cabinet members received minimal benefits compared to their counterparts in other regions. He initiated a judicial review to tackle this matter and ensure transparency in governance.
