Omar Ayub Khan to Remain PTI Secretary-General

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Omar Ayub Khan will continue serving as the party's secretary-general, as per directives from party founder Imran Khan. Omar had initially offered his resignation to focus on his duties as the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of Pakistan. However, his resignation was not accepted, with both the PTI's core committee and parliamentary party urging him to stay in his role.

The PTI officially announced that Omar Ayub Khan's experience and leadership are considered valuable assets, leading to his retention as the party's secretary-general. Both the parliamentary party and core committee passed resolutions expressing their trust in him and requesting him to remain in his position.

Omar Ayub Khan had submitted his resignation on June 22, 2024, addressing it to Imran Khan and party Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan. In his resignation letter, he mentioned upcoming organizational changes within the PTI as directed by the party founder.

While reports of internal discord within the PTI emerged, with some lawmakers contemplating resigning from the National Assembly in protest against the party leadership, Imran Khan acknowledged the existence of rifts and factions within the party. However, he denied the formation of any forward bloc, emphasizing that there were no significant disagreements within the PTI.

The decision to retain Omar Ayub Khan as the PTI's secretary-general highlights the party's commitment to stability and continuity in its leadership. With the support of the parliamentary party and core committee, Omar Ayub Khan will continue to play a crucial role in shaping the future of the PTI.
