Balochistan's Chief Minister Bugti announces austerity measures to optimize public funds for development, focusing on urban development and transparency in project execution.

The Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, has announced a series of austerity measures aimed at optimizing the utilization of public funds for the benefit of the common people. This decision comes as part of a broader strategy to increase revenue and enhance the development budget of the province, which constitutes a significant portion of the country's total budget.

Efforts are underway to improve service delivery and governance in Balochistan, with a particular focus on urban development to address the challenges faced by the residents of Quetta. The government plans to allocate Rs 220 billion for the overall development of the province, including the expansion of existing cities and the establishment of new urban centers to accommodate the growing population.

The collaboration between the coalition government and state machinery has resulted in the inclusion of 70% of approved development projects in the provincial Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) for 2024-25. The remaining 30% of projects are expected to receive technical approval by July 20, with the first project tender scheduled for July 1, 2024.

A robust monitoring mechanism has been put in place to track the progress of development projects on a bi-weekly basis. Elected representatives and department heads will supervise project implementation to ensure quality and timely completion. Notably, the Federal government has agreed to fund provincial-level projects for the first time since the 18th amendment.

The Chief Minister expressed gratitude for the support of Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif in addressing the needs of the underprivileged province. The government remains committed to transparency and accountability in project execution to deliver high-quality outcomes efficiently.

The government of Balochistan's proactive approach towards fiscal responsibility and strategic development planning reflects a commitment to improving the lives of its citizens. By prioritizing transparency and efficiency in project implementation, the government aims to create a sustainable and inclusive environment for growth and progress in the province.
